On September 23rd 2009 Speakers of Bromley Speakers Club left the Association of Speakers Clubs.

Inaugural Chislehurst Festival September 30th 2009

On Wednesday 30th September 2009, members from Beckenham Speakers Club participated in the inaugural Chislehurst Festival by putting on a demonstration speaking event at The Legion, Green Lane, Chislehurst.

The festivals' organisers approached the club in April asking if it would be able to schedule an entertaining evening to support the new festival. In total, five members from Beckenham Speakers Club attended the event and delivered a sparkling array of prepared speeches, evaluations and a demonstration of impromptu speaking.

George Anstey, pictured above joined the club just before Christmas last year on a mission to improve his public speaking skills for his work as an economist. George has certainly achieved his goal and has now begun competing in professional competitions.

George participated in the College of Public Speaking's Corporate Challenge 2009, at St Mary-le-Bow, Cheapside on Monday 28th September. His performance thrilled the audience and he gave his vastly experienced competitors a run for their money.

Congratulations to Speakers of Bromley member and District President Richard Johnson who won this year's Area Speech Contest. He is seen receiving his trophy from former District President Keith Dickerson. Richard is one of the South-East's most consistent speakers and this year will be his third successive appearance in the District Finals. This year's finals will be in Maidstone on March 15th. We wish him every success in his bid to be District Champion and a National Finalist.

Beckenham Speakers Club works hard to give its members every opportunity for self-development. Therefore, when somebody steps forward, takes on the challenge and succeeds, it is a great source of delight. During this period we had a BBC VideoNation camera tracking Stephen and his progress. Although the video clip below lasts only 3 minutes, it provides an interesting insight into Stephen's motivations for joining a speakers' club, as well as how much he has benefited from the experience.
